ClearCube Technology Radically Extends USB

~ New USB C/Port Extends USB Signals up to 200 meters between the Desktop and IT Center~

AUSTIN, TX (April 2, 2001) -- ClearCube Technology announces the USB C/Port, a cutting edge enhancement to its highly-acclaimed C3 Architecture for networked enterprise computing. The C3 Architecture revolutionizes desktop management by centralizing computing assets while delivering full PC functionality to the desktop. The new USB C/Port delivers complete USB functionality to the desktop from the CPU Blade, a computer that is located up to 200 meters away in the data center. The USB C/Port is ideal for clients wanting to provide their users with the greatest amount of flexibility without sacrificing network security.

“Today’s cost conscious corporate PC buyers are more likely than ever to entertain alternatives to networked computing that promise to increase manageability and cut costs,” said IDC analyst Roger Kay.”

The USB C/Port delivers four USB ports to the desktop while giving IT managers control over what devices can be connected for security. Standard USB compliant devices connect easily to the C/Port’s four ports including: keyboards, mice, audio and video devices, printers, scanners, mass-storage and hundreds of other devices. A standard VGA port supports CRT and LCD monitors. Because a variety of peripherals can be connected, the USB C/Port is ideal for clients who desire user flexibility. Security – a key benefit of the C3 Architecture – is not sacrificed, since peripherals are managed through both an operating system policy and a unique hardware lock that can prevent desktop connection to any mass-storage media. The hardware lock is configured via a jumper on the centralized CPU Blade, which is locked away in a separate and secure location.

“The USB C/Port is an important step in the evolution of the C3 Architecture,” said Mike Frost President and CEO of ClearCube Technology. “The ability to offer I/O to the desktop is an important customer requirement, equally as important was maintaining high levels of security. Our USB C/Port accomplished both.”

The USB C/Port augments the ClearCube C3 Architecture -- a managed solution that enables unparalleled security and uptime advantages with the performance and user experience of a managed PC. This innovative approach centralizes computing assets into the data center and delivers the full PC functionality to the desktop over standard Category 5 cable up to 200 meters away.
