11-18-2002 Austin, TX – November 18, 2002—ClearCube, the market leader in client blade desktop computing, today announced that BP Canada Energy Company has deployed ClearCube’s client blade desktops to its Calgary trading floor. BP is looking to ClearCube to increase computer availability to over 99.9 percent, reduce desktop management costs and lessen the amount of space required on the trading floor. As part of the deployment, BP will be using both single- and dual-monitor workstations on the floor. “BP needs a high-availability computing architecture that minimizes downtime for its trading floor operations,” said Greg Miller, Manager of Infrastructure for BP Energy. “ClearCube’s ability to remotely switch and manage trader workstations is the only solution we found that meets our requirements for 99.99 percent availability.” BP’s new trading floor will be used for energy, gas and commodity trading. The ClearCube architecture allows them to support their multiple network needs by providing both private and public network connections to the trading workstations without increasing the amount of deployed desktops. This decreases the overall costs while improving manageability and availability. “We’ve already seen the tremendous benefits that blades have brought to the server marketplace,” said Larry Tabb, director, securities and investments, TowerGroup. “The use of blade architecture for desktop computing is a perfect solution for trading floors, where cost reduction and availability are primary concerns and where space comes at a premium.” BP will leverage ClearCube’s client blade architecture, enabling the end-user’s PC to be cleared from the over crowded trading floor and moved to a secure data center. Users still maintain individual hard drives, video cards, processor and memory allowing for the same flexibility and customization found in traditional desktop computers. With the small blade form-factor stored in a central data center, IT managers can remotely switch and manage desktop computers, increasing availability and saving up to 30 percent on desktop management costs. “Our client blade desktops are the perfect solution to increase the efficiency of BP’s trading floor and ease IT management costs,” said Mike Frost, president and CEO of ClearCube Technology. “And, with two monitors, traders can complete those complex transactions in less time and with added confidence that computers will remain available with limited downtime.” About ClearCube Technology For More Information Contact: Ken Knotts Vicki Greene |
