ClearCube Enhances Connection Broker Technology to Offer Hardware-Agnostic Centralized Computing Solution

ClearCube's Sentral Virtual Desktop Management Platform Now Available for Third Party Servers and Blades

Austin, Texas – September 10, 2007ClearCube Technology, the market leader in centralized computing solutions, today announced that ClearCube Sentral™ Virtual Desktop management software will now be available for a broad spectrum of third party hardware. Sentral is part of the industry's only solution that provides complete management of virtualized desktops and end-user access devices while delivering PC-level performance to end-users. Building on the industry's first connection broker technology, Sentral features enhancements for managing PC blades and virtual desktops while remaining hardware-agnostic, which provides clients the ability to utilize any back-end hardware and user access device for desktop virtualization. Sentral now manages a wide variety of user access devices, delivers Virtual Machine (VM) Pooling functionality as an industry first, supports Web browsers as Virtual Desktop clients and delivers improved scalability to cope with heterogeneous enterprise environments.

The complexity of centralized computing and desktop virtualization is primarily driven by the diverse set of tasks and infrastructure components that need to be deployed and managed. Sentral provides connection brokering support for complex centralized computing solutions. For example, in addition to supporting a diverse set of XPe, Linux and Web Browser-based user access devices, the connection broker also supports ClearCube's next-generation IP-based user ports, which eliminate the distance barrier previously inherent in centralized computing.

"Back in 2003, ClearCube launched the first virtualization-ready connection broker," said Amir Husain, CTO, ClearCube. "Building on that leading technology, Sentral is the most complete management software allowing companies to use their existing infrastructure to create successful virtualized desktop environments. Not only does Sentral provide connection brokering, but also user device management, remote access, VM management and a variety of other systems management tasks. This platform really takes centralized computing to a whole new level. Standalone connection brokers as one-off solutions really don't make the cut anymore."

Features and Benefits
ClearCube Sentral is the industry's first software platform to offer connection broker technology for efficiently managing centralized physical and virtual computing resources from a single console. Sentral adds a number of new features designed to enhance the end-user computing experience and reduce IT management costs, including:

  • VM Pooling–Sentral incorporates ClearCube's patent-pending VM Pooling technology to drastically enhance the capacity of servers and blades to host a large number of user sessions, while also increasing performance by intelligently controlling VM execution states. For example, if one or more VMs are not being used on a blade configured in "Many to 1" mode, Sentral will automatically begin to hibernate extra VMs. All the while, the product maintains configurable "pools" of pre-started VMs that can be instantly assigned to mitigate connection delays.
  • Extensive VM Management–Sentral provides deep integration with VMware's ESX platform, allowing VMs to be registered, VM execution states to be monitored, started, shutdown and automatically hibernated all from within the Sentral console.
  • Support for Web Browsers as Clients–Sentral allows users located anywhere in the world to use any conveniently available PC, laptop or thin client with a Web browser to securely connect back to their Virtual Desktop with a full screen user experience. Sentral provides support for both Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.
