10-2-2002 Austin, TX (October 2, 2002) - Runners and corporations from all over the Austin area are shaping up to prepare for the ClearCube Distance Challenge benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Many athletic Austinites will have the opportunity to prove that they are up for the Challenge by participating in a series of eight races that are supported by businesses around Austin, which begin Oct. 6 with the IBM Uptown Classic and end with the Motorola Marathon on Feb. 16. Runners who complete all eight races will receive the coveted Distance Challenge fleece. People who are interested can register and make pledges online at www.distancechallenge.com. Distance Challenge finishers will run a total of 115 miles. The real challenge, organizers say, is earning money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas. Runners are challenged to raise $1 for every mile they run, and they can earn prizes as incentives. The person who gets the most money pledges wins a trip for two to the Rock-and-Roll Marathon in San Diego. Other prizes include T-shirts, stopwatches, MP3 players, and digital cameras. Runners who do not complete all of the races are still eligible to win pledge prizes. "ClearCube is very excited to have the opportunity to sponsor the Distance Challenge for a second year in a row," said Mike Frost, President and CEO of ClearCube Technology. "We strongly believe in the mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and I know the runners in this community will rise to the challenge to help support this foundation. We’re all very excited to be a part of it." The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. It is the largest wish-granting organization in the world, with 78 chapters in the United States and its territories, and 23 international affiliates on five continents. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 97,000 wishes to children around the world since 1980.
