State-of-the-Art Hospital Relies on ClearCube to Secure Patient Data

Duncan Regional Hospital Deploys PC Blades in Patient Rooms, Nursing Stations and in the ER and OR

Austin, Texas - November 1, 2004 - ClearCube Technology, the market leader and pioneer in PC blade computing, today announced that Duncan Regional Hospital in Oklahoma, has made a significant investment in PC blades.   PC blades allow Duncan Regional to protect patient information, save critical space in operating rooms, nursing stations and patient rooms while eliminating PC fans that spread airborne contaminants.

Duncan Regional Hospital is a 142-bed hospital that serves southwestern Oklahoma. Duncan Regional combines highly trained healthcare professionals, advanced technology, state-of-the-art facilities and highly skilled physicians to provide quality healthcare services to its patients.   Prior to implementing ClearCube PC blades, the IT staff at Duncan Regional was spending the majority of its time and resources setting up, moving and troubleshooting PCs.

"We need to keep up-to-date on the latest hospital technologies, from ER/OR and birthing centers all the way to the patient room.   If we spend all of our time fixing PCs, our hospital is not able to provide the critical services that the community relies upon," said Roger Neal, director of information technology for Duncan Regional.   "With ClearCube, we make the delivery of critical information pervasive to the doctors. They are able to access EMR records anywhere at anytime. We also benefit from the increased security of having the ClearCube PC blades, with all of our sensitive patient information, centralized in a locked data closet."

Duncan Regional connects patient charts through a sophisticated intranet, providing a web viewer that shows physicians patient images, medical records and patient biometrics, using GE Centricity PACS.   With the standard configuration and user experience of PC blades, Duncan Regional did not need to retrain users or re-configure its applications to run on PC blades.

PC blades enable computers to be removed from the patient areas, leaving doctors and nurses only a monitor, keyboard and mouse.   This eliminates PC fans that spread airborne contaminants and reduces noise in such critical areas as birthing centers, operating rooms, nursing stations and intensive care units.

"We've seen such a great response from the medical staff and IT staff that we've made PC blades our first choice for PC refreshes.   Seat for seat, ClearCube costs a little more up front, but the PC blades will last 10 months longer than the average PC.   With that, we will move from a three-year refresh cycle to a four-year cycle.   That saves us a lot of money," continued Neal.

ClearCube PC blades have been installed in healthcare environments, including Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group, Medical Center of Central Georgia, Oklahoma Heart Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital and Edward Hospital.

"Securing patient data is a problem that all hospitals are working to address. While resolving this problem they are also trying to leverage technology to provide medical staff with easy access to information," said Carl Boisvert, president and CEO of ClearCube. "The ClearCube solution easily helps IT staffs accomplish both of these tasks."
