ClearCube Technology Partners with Ensure Technologies to Better Serve Healthcare Customers

Hospitals increase security and HIPAA compliance with PC Blades and XyLoc MD

Austin, Texas and Ann Arbor, Michigan - June 13, 2005 - ClearCube Technology, the market leader and pioneer in PC Blade computing, and Ensure Technologies, the industry leader in providing intelligent access control solutions for healthcare, today announced a strategic partnership to better serve the security needs of their healthcare customers. Through the use of both PC Blades and XyLoc MD, hospitals are keeping patient data safer than ever, while providing doctors and nurses easier access and control.

"We've been using ClearCube PC Blades and Ensure XyLoc MD for three years in our network of 12 clinics and it not only makes my team's job easier managing PCs, but the doctors love the ubiquity of the technology," said Guy Fuller, IT Manager, Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group. "By walking in to a room, doctors are logged in and can immediately find patient data. Once they leave, they are logged off and there is no chance that the next patient will see what information was on the screen."

Ensure's XyLoc MD provides full-time access control by determining a user's location through a wireless ID badge, automatically locking the computer when the user is not physically present. With XyLoc, employees no longer have to re-enter their passwords each time they approach their computer, but are logged on to the machine as they approach it. XyLoc recognizes users and determines their access privileges, preventing information from falling into the wrong hands and also taking the burden of compliance off the user.

"HIPAA is still high on the agendas of many hospital CIOs and we understand the importance of keeping patient data secure, both from the standpoint of government compliance and patient care," said Carl Boisvert, president and CEO of ClearCube. "By partnering with Ensure, we can offer our customers a complimentary solution that easily integrates with our PC Blades and aids them in increasing their levels of security, while maintaining the ease of use and convenience they expect."

Because ClearCube PC Blades have no external storage devices and can only be accessed by IT staff, data is more secure than with a traditional PC solution, ensuring that users cannot walk off with sensitive data. In addition, the hardware is centralized, keeping the PC Blades in a secure data center, away from the user, leaving only a small user port in examining rooms or ORs. This setup greatly reduces the desktop footprint, freeing up valuable space in cramped hospital settings.

"The physical security that PC Blades offer and the automatic lock-down capabilities of XyLoc make for a premier security solution. While each one independently provides a means to protect the physical environment, the two in conjunction are a win-win scenario," said Rob Israel, CIO of John C. Lincoln Health Network. "With the PC hard drives in a centralized data center there are no moving parts in the examining rooms and therefore no airborne contaminants can be spread. This has been a great benefit for us."
