PC Blades secure patient data by locking the hard drives in a secure data center, provide a 99.9 percent uptime and contain no moving parts to spread contaminants through exam and operating rooms. “From the time patients enter the hospital to the time they leave, there is no paperwork involved,” said John E. Martin, CIO of Oklahoma Heart Hospital. “ClearCube PC Blades have allowed us to achieve our goal of being a top-notch medical facility by securely and safely deploying PCs where it otherwise would have been impossible using desktop PCs.” Using traditional PCs throughout the hospital could have posed significant challenges. Placing PCs in patient rooms and exam rooms posed data and equipment security risk, especially in light of HIPAA regulations for medical data security. Additionally, the bulky PCs took up much-needed space and were vulnerable to damage (both from foot traffic and cleaning agents) in busy hospital areas. Finally, the internal blower fans in the PCs posed a risk for spreading airborne contaminants. ClearCube’s solution takes the traditional PC out of the room, shrinks it to a blade form factor (powered by the latest Intel processors and running the same Windows OS as traditional PCs), centralizes the PC Blades in a secure location, and uses software tools to remotely manage and troubleshoot the computers. This keeps IT staff out of exam rooms and operating rooms and allows them to manage PC Blades from a separate office or often from a remote location.
